French priest stole £2m to fund 'playboy' lifestyle

Father Antoine Videau, 64, received a three-year prison sentence for crimes that led to him being known as the "Playboy Padre".

He was revealed to have been in possession of 28 bank accounts around the world following his arrest.
Much of the money was being used to fund his multi-millionaire lifestyle which included regular visits to casinos in Las Vegas and Monte Carlo.

A court in Ajaccio, Corsica, heard he had "played the system" for more than 20 years. As well as property, foreign travel and sports cars, Father Videau had spent the money on vintage wine and champagne.

 

Longtime Sen. Robert Bird Dies at Age 92

Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd, the fiery orator best known for bringing home federal money for his West Virginia constituents, died early Monday morning at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va.. He was 92.

Byrd was the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, holding his seat for more than 50 years, which included a six-year stint as Senate Majority Leader.

   

Christian Professor in Pakistan Beaten for Refusing to Convert

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Compass Direct News) – Muslim students attacked a Christian professor at the University of Peshawar this month after he refused their demand to convert to Islam, the instructor told Compass.

Psychology professor Samuel John, a father of four who has been teaching at the university in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province for 12 years, said that as he came out of his house on the university campus at 8:30 a.m. on June 14, about 20 to 25 students rushed and assaulted him.

“I shouted for help, but no one came to help,” he said.
